Tonight my husband and I sat on our front steps for about 25 minutes. Just prior to that, we were in the house, in front the big screen watching something that I can't recall and on one of our gadgets (ipad, laptop, cell phone, something). It seems that we are always Googling, YouTubing, Wikipedia searching, channel surfing or otherwise occupied. So tonight, I asked to sit outside for a bit and we left everything else inside. photo credit
It was soooo peaceful. There was sound was the sound of the crickets and the occasional passing vehicle, the smell of my blooming hydrangeas and lilies and the warmth of my husband's arm around my shoulders. We made some small talk and smooched, but pretty much just sat in silence and basked in the peace of the night. It was simply beautiful.
What do you do to find your peace of mind?

We did that yesterday afternoon...all the kids took a nap at the same time (unbelievable!), and we sat out there for almost two hours. I don't think either of us said a word, we just listened to the sounds.
ReplyDeleteThe other night we had a bonfire and just sat around enjoying life and nature. It was amazing.
ReplyDeleteUs too - outside around dusk is the nicest most peaceful place.
ReplyDeleteWell... this post was a good one for me to read. I felt the peace just reading it. Haven't felt that in a LOOOOOOOOONG time. I can't wait to get out to the country!!!! ("Country" I call home: Idaho. Unfortunately, a trip to ID isn't in the plans for months, maybe years... *sigh*)
ReplyDeleteThanks for the post!

I love moments like the one you just described. It's funny, isn't it? We're so connected and busy all the time, but sometimes the most memorable moments in our lives are spent just sitting and absorbing nature with the people we love. Wonderful post!
ReplyDeleteIt is good to just "unplug" sometimes. My favorite time of day is early morning. It's so cool and quiet in our yard. The birds are singing, and the light is soft. There's the promise a whole new day ahead.
ReplyDeleteIt's almost impossible to find any peace of mind in the area I live. Apartment on one of the main streets in my city. Always noise.
ReplyDeleteSometimes the best I can get is a cup of coffee and a my chanting cd turned up. At lest it drowns out the neighbourhood.
Stopping from SITS! How wonderful to stop, slow down and enjoy being together.
ReplyDeleteI like to go out in the backyard and read.
ReplyDeleteIt's always good to take moments away from all the technology. But sometimes it
may be hard not to take your phone/iphone with you.
I like taking walks. The early morning on Sunday is the best--everyone is asleep or off at church, it's not too hot and the sun is just waking up...
ReplyDeleteMy huband called on his way home from work the other night. He asked what I was doing. I told him I was sitting outside watching our grandson, Josiah, playing. I thought he was going to wreck his truck! He said he couldn't believe that I wasn't hooked up to some sort of technology.
ReplyDeleteIt was nice, but I kept thinking about my Words With Friends game on the iPhone!
Thanks for your comment on my blog, totally made my day!

ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful post. I think times like that make you know that all is right with the world.
ReplyDeleteHope your day rocks.
I love just sitting outside. It is really peaceful.
ReplyDeleteOH this sounds heavenly, I do the same thing for peace of mind: sit outside and relax with nature, there's no better way! I saw your comment on tutubug's blog and thought I'd stop by since you're also in MD =)
ReplyDeleteThanks for the reminder to leave all the distractions and take a time out together - so important!!
ReplyDeleteI go for walks...it calms my spirit. nice post! I will visit again!
ReplyDeleteOoh, that just sounds lovely. I may have to drag my husband out to the backyard tomorrow night.
ReplyDeleteThe Boy and I sat by the water in the midst of the hustle and bustle of the city and just relaxed and talked last night. It was great! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteI need more moments like this. I feel suffocated in my tiny room at times, and when I do have my own home I will def. have a 'temple' room where no electronics are allowed!
